If we do need to do this fundraiser - which is very possible - we will need volunteers.  While selling the candy bars is super easy, maintaining the sale behind the scenes is not.  It is very labor intensive - not hard physical labor obviously, but time-consuming.  I was not involved with the PTO the last time we sold candy bars, but our former president (and now treasurer - thanks Kim!) said that it takes three or four volunteers per day, each day of the two-week sale, to count money, count candy bars, fill orders and deliver to the teachers' rooms - sometimes twice a day; once in the morning and once in the afternoon.  I think we'll have lots of volunteers this year (fingers-crossed), but I just wanted to let everyone know what goes on behind the scenes to make things happen. 
 
Also to consider is shipping and handling and upfront costs.  The Entertainment books cost nothing up front and whatever we don't sell we send back - that's very helpful and cost-efficient for us - we are out nothing and only have profit to gain.  With candy bars however, you pay for what you order upfront and you pay shipping.  If we order conservatively and run out and need to order more, we pay shipping again.  And whatever we don't sell, we can't send back.  It's still a wonderful fundraiser and definitely one of my favorites - who can say no to a kid for a $1 candy bar? 
 
I'm not trying to pit one fundraiser against the other, just giving y'all the info so you can better understand what we're up to in the PTO.  Keep those suggestions coming!  :)

After reading all the posts about the candy bars and such, I did a little research and talked to HERSHEYs Candy. Basic information is a profit of 50% to 55%, free shipping. Candy bars are $1.50 to $2, suggested retail, of course you can charge more or less.

I talked to the distributor and she is going to send me a lot more information.  If anyone is interested in obtaining the information after I get it, I can send to you so you can look over it. I checked with other people and although you can get 60% ( thats the highest I found), they dont offer free shipping.
